    ASA Educational Services presents…

A class series for students and families who are
serious about academic and personal success.

ASA Educational Services is an extension of the greatness of ASA Academy. We are continuing our mission of partnering with parents and providing supplemental educational services …because we all know that school is simply not enough. Our classes are designed to provide transformative, academic experiences for youth in Grades 6 – 12. Our unique formula allows for remediation as well as acceleration of skills, based on the individual needs of the student. For this reason, our classes are kept small with only 10 students per class. Each student is assessed, co-creates a plan for success based on the assessment, and then works that plan over the course of 8 weeks. Results have been phenomenal!

The Academic Achievement Gap is real.
The Digital Divide is real.

ASA Educational Services is concerned with the access, interest, and ability of today’s students in our global and technologically advancing society. As society advances, so should the skills and confidence of our youth. Every effort must be made to equip students early and continue to hone and develop skills to the point of mastery. Youth must command the academic written word and appropriate written expression. Youth must command proper number sense, calculations, and algebraic understanding. Youth must command proper use of technology and cutting-edge software programs.

The classes at ASA Educational Services will increase student-performance in all academic disciplines.

“Technology Tools for Academic Success”
Instructor: Kenneth Wynn.

Kenneth Wynn began teaching and facilitating Technology workshops for both children and adults during his tenure at of 13 years in Corporate Retail/Finance. With a unique combination of skills based in Retail Finance, Communication, and Technology, Mr. Wynn utilizes “wizard-like” skills in Computer Technology and imparts them to users of various confidence and skill levels and ages. Initially coaching adults for job readiness, and career change, Mr. Wynn has coached small organizations in presentation skills as well as mastering the tools that create and manage the data. In 2004, Mr. Wynn began teaching middle & high school students and adults using pedagogical techniques and strategies that expose, educate and empower every user. Mr. Wynn encourages and coaches students to pursue Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, etc.) while still in High School. There are numerous learning opportunities for students interested in this level of expertise.

The objective in all of Mr. Wynn’s classes is two-fold: to build the confidence and skill set of the individual user and to close the digital divide. Youth, particularly those of color, must not only be “up to speed” but must be inspired and positioned to excel, create, and innovate at the pace that technology advances. Learning and developing these skills make students “job ready” prior to graduation from High school.

This course is designed to equip and build skills, confidence, and interest in the use of the Computer as a tool for academic success. For students to stay academically competitive, much of what it is needed for classroom success involves having strong computer skills (and we are not talking MySpace!). In this course students will, through a series of lessons and projects, build competence and confidence in areas that include Office Suite Applications (Microsoft Office, Open Office, Google Docs, IBM Lotus Symphony, and others). Today’s skill-sets include “teamwork skills” needed to successfully complete coursework in and out of the classroom. Students will also receive instruction in basic troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of personal computers and basic components. Students will have an opportunity to work hands-on with various projects that will allow for application of skills taught in the following applications:

    • Word Processing (MS Word)
    • Presentation (MS Power point)
    • Spreadsheet Creation, Graphing (MS Excel)
    • Adobe Acrobat

Eventually, accelerated students will be able to explore and apply themselves to more advanced projects, as well mastering the applications in route to “Microsoft Office Certification”

“Math Skills & Confidence”
Instructor: Emperess Hall

For mathematician, Emperess Hall, math is truly a calling. Mrs. Hall began teaching math to her peers while a sophomore in high school. She was encouraged by her middle school Algebra teacher, who observed her gift of teaching others difficult math concepts through hands on, one on one instruction. Mrs. Hall’s approach to teaching math is that every student learns math differently and a strong foundation in basic math concepts through repetition is essential for the success of every student. Over the past 12 years she has successfully instructed both middle school and high school students to improve test scores, grades, and over all confidence in math. Building students’ self-esteem in math is critical, with every lesson completed, students will be challenged to go beyond their comfort zone, hone their skills and expand their expectations of their own math capabilities and success. You will see improvement in accuracy of math facts, less time exhausted on homework, and better grades. These personalized math workshops are designed to target the students’ individual needs and deliver results. Through the use of technology, students will use our software component ALEKS, which allows students to strengthen and improve math skills on the computer as well as allow parents to track their student’s success.

    • Decrease the amount of time spent on homework by building confidence and accuracy in math concepts.
    • Improve math grades and test scores through repetition and technology.
    • Hands-on, real life approach to math concepts that brings math to life, making it relavant to success
    • Make problem-solving easier
    • Increase your studdent’s math self esteem.

NOTE: Families enrolling students in Math Classes must pay an additional fee for ALEKS. This tool is vital for math success. If a family were to purchase ALEKS on their own, it’s approximately $20/month. However, purchasing ALEKS through ASA Educational Services allows families to purchase a year-long subscription for a nominal fee of approximately $45. ASA highly advocates ALEKS (www.aleks.com) ASA also supports parents with ALEKS by providing a complimentary ALEKS Parent Training Session.
